Just in time for the holiday season, MANNA Food Co-op in Detroit Lakes is now accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Motivated by a mission to bring health and wellness to every member of the community, MANNA staff undertook the application process through USDA and set up necessary equipment to accept SNAP benefits through Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards at its check out terminals.

The co-op board and staff are pleased to welcome members, friends, and all community members the opportunity to use their EBT card at the store.

Previously known as food stamps, SNAP benefits allow low-income families to purchase food. Especially as the Holidays approach, we all recognize that good food brings us together.

By accepting SNAP benefits, MANNA is making sure even more can afford to access fresh, local, and organic food for the upcoming holidays and support local producers at the same time.

In addition, MANNA Food Co-op has received a wonderful gift from Becker County Energize, a local initiative to bolster health and wellness in the Detroit Lakes area. BCE recently donated 15 life memberships, available for community members who are receiving assistance via EBT, WIC (Women, Infants & Children program), Medicaid or the free and reduced-price lunch program at area schools.

Memberships will also be offered to anyone who has been impacted this past year by the loss, disability or catastrophic illness of a family member. If you are or know of someone who meets these criteria and would appreciate the discounts that come with a co-op membership, please contact Stacy Salvevold at 218-770-2062 or stuccie_wlf@yahoo.com .

Stop by the store across from M State on Highway 34 (105 Barbara Ave.) any time for fresh, local and organic food, and MANNA will be happy to accept your EBT card.
