Any wine connoisseurs out there?
Or anyone concerned with sustainable farming?
Imagine partnering the pair and bringing them to a nearby location.
Well, dream no more — Il Fiorello Olive Oil Company, with the aid of Slow Wine California, is making conjecture a reality from 6-9 p.m. June 6 at the Suisun Valley establishment.
Slow Wine, explains Mary Taylor with Il Fiorello, is an offshoot of the slow food movement. It’s not just about buying and eating local, she said, but going deeper.
That is, encouraging producers to farm in a sustainable way and being fair to the people and the land by way of organic or sustainable farming methods.
Slow Wine California, a branch of Slow Wine Italy, is putting together its annual guide of the state’s wineries that produce wines through sustainably grown practices. To do that, they’ve collected 250 wines from 120 wineries that fit the bill and will be evaluating them from June 2-3.
But the international testing panel will use basically a shot glass sample from each bottle, leaving much to go to waste. What to do?
Have a taste testing at Il Fiorello, of course.
“The best and most sustainable wines in California that will be in this book will be all in one place for one night,” Taylor emphasized.
The event was made possible by a link forged long ago, that of family.
Elisabeth Fiorello-Sievers with Slow Wine California is the daughter of Il Fiorello founders Ann and Mark Sievers. She had the event in mind and her folks had the facility with a backdrop of olive and citrus trees and lush rolling hills. Seems like it was meant to be.
“This is the first time we are able to bring a Slow Wine tasting event of this magnitude to California,” said Fiorello-Sievers in a press statement. “The wineries represented are doing extraordinary work to produce exceptional wines from sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming practices. We’re very excited to be able to introduce their wines to enthusiasts in this area.”
Napa sommeliers are expected to be on hand to serve and talk about each wine.
General admission is $40 for wine tasting and snacks and $25 for wine professionals and slow food members.
Proceeds will go toward offsetting the printing costs for the 2019 Slow Wine California Guide book.
Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged.
