An organic fruit and vegetables outfit has opened its first shop in Bath.

The Community Farm has tasted success and become a firm favourite at the Saturday farmers’ market in Green Park Station.

It prompted the move from stall to permanent premises at The Huts in the former station.

Shoppers now have access to locally-sourced organic produce, tinned foods, dried goods, preserves and more, five days a week.

Shop co-ordinator, Sarah Rees, spent seven years with London Farmers’ Markets, running a cake-making business and not-for-profit veg box scheme.

She said: “I have finally come home to the West Country and I couldn't be happier.

“I’m looking forward to growing the business, spreading the word about The Farm, and celebrating all things veggie with the people of Bath!”

Ped Asgarian is managing director at The Community Farm, a social enterprise owned and governed by more than 500 member shareholders.

He said: “We strive to pay above the market price to our local, organic farmers for their produce, and we make it accessible directly to our customers at a cost that’s affordable. We don’t go all-out for maximum profit, we aim for fairness.

“Our customers share our ethics. They are principled, knowledgeable and passionate about eating fresh, healthy food.

“Their loyalty has enabled us to expand our business in Bath and we can’t thank them enough.”

Much of the organic fruit and veg comes directly from the 13-acre plot, located on land in the Chew Valley, near Bath.

Profits from the products sold, help fund learning and community activities at The Farm, such as school visits, wellbeing sessions, and wildlife walks.

Ped added: “Once you’ve visited our shop, why not come and see where the food comes from? Find out how the crops are grown, and get to meet the people behind the produce.

“There are lots of opportunities to get involved, through events, volunteering, investing and membership.

“The Community Farm is open to all. Be sure to pop over soon.”

The new store named the Organic Farm Shop is open Wednesday to Friday, 11am-6pm, on Saturdays 8am-6pm and on Sundays 9am-4pm.
