3 Mountains Launches Silverback Draft Tea

NEW YORK— 3 Mountains, Specialty Food Association member and based in Asheville, North Carolina, announces a new partnership with Back Porch Beverage of Canton, North Carolina, to manufacture Silverback Draft Tea, the world’s first non-alcoholic draft-style tea, available in both kegs and cans.

Named for Rwanda’s world-renowned gorillas, Silverback Draft Tea is made from organic tea grown in Rwanda, produced using 3 Mountains’ unique, whole-leaf brewing technology to create a healthy and delicious alternative to sugary sodas, dangerous energy drinks, plain waters and alcohol. Silverback Draft Tea is now served in many independent local breweries, restaurants, cafes, and markets in cans and as Silverback on Tap. On July 20, Silverback Draft Tea will make its debut in all 161 The Fresh Markets stores.

Inspired by Asheville’s culture of natural foods and famed breweries and taps, 3 Mountains founder and CEO Sara Delaney learned the basics of brewing and kegging at one of the nation’s top craft beverage training institutes. She spent two years developing the refined recipes and testing them in the marketplace as “Tea on Tap.” Equipped with new skills, insights and prototype cans, Delaney recently approached Back Porch Beverage to help scale up production and in an effort to support her local economy while also making a positive impact in Rwanda. Delaney uses organic and Fair Trade certified tea from Rwanda as the main ingredient, and there are no artificial ingredients or preservatives.

“3 Mountains is really thrilled to have a local partner to produce Silverback. As a startup company, we need great strategic partnerships to help us meet the fast-growing demand for our product lines. Part of our social mission is to support local economies wherever we are, whether it is Asheville or a rural village in Rwanda!” said Sara Delaney, founder and CEO of 3 Mountains.
