Ambassador of Georgia to Qatar, Nikoloz Revazishvili

Doha: Georgia, a country located at the intersection of Eastern Europe and Western Asia and a part of the Caucasus region has become a quarantine-free destination for vaccinated Qatari citizens and residents. 

People holding valid Qatari ID also get on-arrival visa to visit Georgia. “Qatari citizens and residents who have completed the COVID-19 vaccination (both doses) do not require any quarantine for travelling to Georgia,” Ambassador of Georgia to Qatar, H E Nikoloz Revazishvili told The Peninsula. 

He said that vaccinated parents need only to show PCR negative tests for their accompanying children.

“Quarantine-free travel from Qatar to Georgia is in place for vaccinated citizens and expatriates. Visa is also not required. If you have a vaccination certificate which indicates that you received two shots of vaccine then it will be a quarantine-free destination for you,” said the Ambassador.

He said that there is a daily flight between the two countries. “We are working with Qatar Airways to fly to another Georgian city, Batumi which is a very popular tourist destination,” said the Ambassador.

Before the pandemic, he said, there were three daily flights between Qatar and Georgia, now one flight is operating and it is fully occupied.

“We received many telephone calls from people seeking information about travel from Qatar to Georgia,” said the Ambassador. He said that it takes two hours and 30 minutes to reach Tbilisi from Doha.

 “After pandemic we need to come back to normal life, easing travel restrictions. Thanks to Qatari government for running a perfect vaccination programme."

“Many people have been vaccinated fully which means they will be able to travel safely,” said the Ambassador. “Qatari government did an amazing job in fighting the pandemic and help other countries in fighting it.”

Speaking about QatarGeorgian bilateral relations, the Ambassador said that the two countries are enjoying very good relations since the diplomatic ties were established. “Before the pandemic we had very high level official visits in Doha and Tbilisi. The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia had visited Qatar and met very high level officials.”

“I do hope that in future, we will enhance our bilateral cooperation in every field – economy, trade, business to business, political and other levels.” He said that the trade volume between Qatar and Georgia is increasing by 5 to 10 percent yearly.

“A number of initiatives are being taken which will help to further increase the trade between two countries by the end of this year,” said the Ambassador.

To a question about bringing Georgian lamb in Qatar in bulk quantity, he said: “We are working with Qatar Food Company Widam. They are looking for Georgian lamb products and I hope then soon they will have the variety of Georgian lamb. But it is yet to be finalised.” He said that Georgian lamb is one of the highest demanding product in Qatar as it is very good quality.

Highlighting famous Georgian products, he said that there are some organic products and a number of companies in Qatar are offering organic fresh juices and smoothies. “I see big potential in many kinds of berries. Georgia produces different varieties of berries in large quantity including blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. Now the harvesting season is coming,” said the Ambassador.
