ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The best whisky in the world may very well be distilled in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Newfoundland Whisky by the Newfoundland Distillery Company earned a whopping 97 points at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and is one of five whiskies nominated as a “Best in Class” finalist, besting nearly 5,500 entrants.

The distinction from one of the most influential spirits judging in the world comes with a Double Gold Medal stamp, one of only 12 awarded in Canada and the only in Atlantic Canada.

This is the third Double Gold Medal for the company, the first for their Seaweed Gin in 2018 and the second for Seaweed Gin Tom Collins RTD in 2022.

The winner of the "Best in Class" spirit will be announced in October.
