1. At Waterstone’s Piccadilly, after hearing the redoubtable Richard Holloway discuss his latest book, Waiting for the Last Bus: Reflections on Life and Death, a strong drink and buttermilk chicken goujons in the top-floor restaurant, 5th View.

2. Philip Norman and Sue Summers take Beth and me to lovely Paradise Hampstead (est 1969). We relish Professor Cragoe’s chicken with crushed mustard seeds and fresh methi and tales of Philip’s newest biography — of Eric Clapton, once a boyfriend of mine.

3. Leaving Cavendish Square car park in the pouring rain to shop at John Lewis, I spot Les 110 de Taillevent and nip in for lobster spelt risotto and one of its 110 wines.

4. After Aurore, a French film for femmes d’un certain âge, bracing Singapore noodles at the Bloomsbury Hare & Tortoise.

5. An Easter present of lemon drizzle from Violet Cakes. Me and Meghan.
