Shipman & Goodwin LLP Adds Two Attorneys in Stamford, CT & New York City as Part of Strategic Expansion Across Practice Areas

Partner Scott M. Gerard & Counsel Kelly A. Trahan Join Firm

HARTFORD, Conn., Jan. 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Shipman & Goodwin LLP, a multi-practice law firm with 180 attorneys and offices in Connecticut, New York City and Washington D.C., adds two attorneys as part of its strategic expansion of its national real estate and commercial finance practices.

Scott M. Gerard joins Shipman & Goodwin as its newest Partner, and Kelly A. Trahan as its newest Counsel. They will serve the needs of local, regional, national and international clients from the Firm’s Stamford, Connecticut and New York City offices. Both come to Shipman & Goodwin from Murtha Cullina.

Scott M. Gerard joins Shipman & Goodwin as a Partner in the Business and Finance and Real Estate practice groups. He practices in the areas of commercial finance, corporate law and real estate. In his more than 30-year career, Mr. Gerard has represented commercial financial institutions in structuring and closing a wide range of sophisticated loans including: permanent and construction loans; tax credit financings; asset-based and commercial real estate mortgages for hotels; multi-family residential projects; health care/senior care facilities; manufacturing facilities; public/private partnerships; and retail projects. In addition, he has extensive experience advising clients on loan restructures and workouts. Mr. Gerard also serves in the capacity of outside general counsel to a variety of businesses, where he advises clients on matters such as business formation, structuring new business entities and forming joint ventures. In this role, he also provides guidance on mergers, acquisitions and the disposition of businesses. In addition, he has represented major developers in all phases of real estate development. Kelly A. Trahan joins Shipman & Goodwin as Counsel in the Firm’s Business and Finance and Real Estate groups. She represents clients in the areas of commercial real estate, commercial financing and general corporate matters. She has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial financing and represents national and community banks, insurance companies, pension funds and other lending institutions in structuring and closing complex commercial real estate based and asset-based financing transactions, including term and construction loan facilities, revolving credit facilities, state and federal tax credit financings, loan sales, participations, co-lending transactions and other types of credit facilities. She has experience in representing lenders in connection with financing for renewable energy projects and U.S. and international investments in natural resource assets, including timber. She also has extensive experience in commercial real estate transactions, including complex acquisitions and dispositions, sale-leaseback transactions, development and leasing.
