New Mexico Woman Creates Product to Transform Kitchen Experience for Busy Cooks

With six children, 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Ortiz is the family cook and spends hours in the kitchen. While cleaning her own oven—a task that involved getting down on the floor and struggling to reach the oven roof—she created the concept for Tidy Cook.
“While there are self-cleaning ovens and other devices designed to aid in regularly cleaning an oven, none of them completely clean the oven,” said Ortiz. “As an avid cook, I know how hard it can be to get down on your knees and clean your oven. I also know how important it is to ensure you are cooking in a clean oven. Out of my love of cooking and my desire to keep my oven clean, I came up with the idea for Tidy Cook, and it’s my hope that it will help everyone—especially busy cooks like me.”
Tidy Cook is a metal sheet that slides into place right underneath the roof of the oven. It can be easily removed and wiped down. To clean, the sheet slides out, allowing for cleaning the roof outside of the oven.
“It’s tiring, time-consuming and difficult to properly clean an oven,” added Ortiz. “Tidy Cook makes the work easier and allows for those who work so hard in the kitchen to spend their time doing other things, like enjoying the time with the people for whom they’ve just cooked a meal.”
